Out of the Blue!

On November 12th, I completed my first solo art show in midtown Manhattan, right in the heart of New York City. The show, entitled "Out of the Blue," featured my blue series, which I began working on in the summer of 2015. All 35 works in the show were painted on saguran, a 100% eco-friendly fabric made of raffia fiber, processed from young sheaths of the Buri palm.

"Out of the Blue" was an exploration of life and the world around us through a blue lens. Since blue evokes a sense of tranquility and stability, subjects observed in blue were now viewed with the same sense of tranquility and stability, regardless of its state and condition. Out of the blue lens, new insights and fresh perspectives arose. All of a sudden, a furious storm or a blazing fire now elicited a certain sense of stillness and peace. Crashing waves and raging seas unexpectedly acquired a sense of stability and steadfastness. Out of the blue, the unexpected simultaneous coexistence of differing and opposing sides became a possibility.

The art show was also a fund-raiser for Nomi Network - a nonprofit organization creating economic opportunities for survivors and women at risk of human trafficking. Singer song-writer, Jean Lee performed originals and covers at the event as well.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the show possible, to those who came out and showed their support, and to the ones who helped raise funds for Nomi Network by purchasing artwork and other merchandise. See you at the next show!
