Job Tibay is a Filipino-American artist who works on Sinamay fabric and Sterling board. Living thousands of miles away from the Philippines inspired him to find a substrate that would best represent his heritage and style. In his desire to stay connected to his roots, he has chosen to work initially on Sinamay instead of the traditional canvas. Sinamay is handwoven from Abaca fiber, a 100% eco-friendly material from the Philippines. A few years later, he started working on Sterling boards. Its irregular and variegated patterns of wood strands, its rough and textured surface, as well as its sustainability as a resource, appealed to his aesthetics and ideals.
Job is currently pursuing his masters in Fine & Decorative Arts and Design at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York City, and lives with his wife Melissa in South Norwalk, Connecticut.
